April is Child Abuse Prevention Month: So, How Big is the Problem?
Olive Crest is dedicated to preventing child abuse by strengthening, equipping, and restoring children and families in crisis One Life at a Time®. Over the past 50 years, Olive Crest has served over 200,000 children and families.
Child abuse and neglect continue to affect thousands of children and families across the United States. In 2020, there was more than 60,000 children found to be victims of abuse and neglect in California alone and it was reported that at least 1 in 7 children were victims of abuse across the United States. Families with low socioeconomic strategies are five times higher to report child abuse and neglect.
The consequences of child abuse and neglect are felt for generations. Children who have been victims of abuse and neglect suffer both physical and psychological problems, including increased risk of substance abuse, lower school attendance, and limited employment.
To address crisis in our communities, Olive Crest is actively working to break the cycle of abuse through programs that bring children into safe homes and equips them for life. Counseling, educational support, and life skills classes are offered through Olive Crest’s various services and have proven to be effective in stopping the cycle of abuse and empowering families to become strong, healthy, and productive in their communities. Serving 5,000 children and their families each day, Olive Crest is leading the charge in redefining the way that children in crisis are cared for and equipped for success.
