We honor and thank Dr. Brinton, founding president of the Olive Crest Board of Trustees for the Desert Communities. Over 50 years ago, Dr. and Mrs. Brinton made a decision to commit themselves to a lifestyle of volunteering. Together, their passionate and determined efforts have changed innumerable lives for the better. Dr. Brinton (lovingly referred to around here as Dr. B) is a retired Board Certified Urologist and was a voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery (Urology) at the UC Irvine School of Medicine.
In 2000, Dr. and Mrs. Brinton moved to the Coachella Valley from Orange County. Olive Crest founders, Dr. Donald and Lois Verleur, asked them to develop an inaugural Board of Trustees in the desert. Under their leadership, this volunteer power couple commenced a capital campaign, and in less than four years, raised enough money to purchase 5 acres of land in the City of Coachella. By 2008, they had raised in excess of $3 million dollars, and four residential homes for young people were completed on the Coachella property.
Dr. Brinton has served as President of the Trustee board for the past 17 years. His leadership has established Olive Crest in the Coachella Valley with a prestigious reputation and an impressive growth rate. Tracy Fitzsimmons, Executive Director for the Inland and Desert Communities, said, “there is a direct correlation between Dr. Brinton’s leadership, Lorraine’s kindhearted professionalism, and the growth we’ve seen in this region. The biggest winners? Our children and families!”
Donald Verleur, CEO said, “Jim and Lorraine have led with humility, humor, and tenacity. The impact they have had on kids is immeasurable. I am blessed to know them and to call them good friends.”
Dr. Brinton has officially passed the “President” gavel this summer to local business owner Rob Zwemmer of Zwemmer Realty Group. Mr. Zwemmer has humbly accepted the honorable position and is excited to protect the mission and help open more doors in the valley to further strengthen families and keep kids safe! Both Jim and Lorraine, however, because of their incredible spirit and commitment, will remain on the board.
